Al Kapone jumps on stage w/ Marcella, Steve Selvidge, celebrating WEVL

Marcella was honored to be a part of the WEVL 40 Fest on Oct. 8. WEVL FM 89.9 is the Mid-South's only listener supported independent, volunteer radio station. Marcella and 8 other featured vocalists were asked to sing specific songs requested by the WEVL DJ's.

Marcella was asked to sing Nina Simone's version of "See Line Woman," ironically enough one of her fave songs.  Simien shared the stage with some of Memphis' finest musicians Steve Selvidge on lead guitar, Graham Winchester on drums, Mark Edgar Stuart on guitar, Terrence Bishop (who got the all star band together, led the band and did all the arrangements for the evening) on bass and Pat Fusco on keys. Other featured vocalists were Robby Grant, Lahna Dearing, Jeremy Scott and Alicja Trout to name a few.

"See Line Woman" closed out the evening and Memphis's own Al Bailey, otherwise known as Al Kapone "Al Kapeezy" jumped on stage on and valiantly busted a flow, that closed the night out brilliantly. It was a glorious evening celebrating 40 years of WEVL. The turnout was fantastic throughout the whole day from 3-10pm at one of Memphis's new favorite spots to see music Loflin Yard.
